After he married Anna Sumner, of a wealthy American family, they decided to settle in England and acquired the British nationality. In the second worldwar Louis, because he spoke German, was given a military commision as interrogator of the German prisoners of war. During the second part of the war the Redleaf manor was used by the army to encamp part of a battalion and the family lived in one of the houses on the estate. Uncle Louis was an active member of the Carlton Club and knew Churchill well.
