26. Katharina Dorothea
VON ENGELBRUNN1 was
born on 29 Nov 1637 in Straßburg. She was christened on 2 Dec
1637 in Straßburg, Neue Kirche. She died on 15 Mar 1713 in Stechow,
Brandenburg, DE. She was buried in Kotzen, Brandenburg, DE.
She was Maid-of-Honour at the Court of the Duke of Wurttemberg and in 1661 Lady-in-waiting
of the bedchamber of the Fürstin of Ostfrieslandt.
Katharina was educated at the Court of the Duke of Wurttemberg together with
the daughters of the Duke, the Prinsesses Naystadt and the daughters of the Markgraf
Ansbach und Weildringen zu Oettingen. The third daughter of the Duke was the
first to marry with Prince Georg Fürst of OstFrieslandt. The Duke and Duchess
asked her mother Dorothea to allow Katharina to accompany her friend to OstFrieslandt.
They arrived in May 1661 and Katharina became Lady-in-waiting of the bedchamber
at the Court. At the Court she met Caspar Erich, a widower, and they married.
Caspar Erich had been Administrator of Magdeburg and was Chief Steward (Hofmeister
) at the Court.
On the deathbed of her husband he made her promise to move with her children
to his estates in Brandenburg and to administer the estates herself as his relative
who administered the estates mismanaged them. Although she did not like to leave
all her friends at the Court and in Aurich she obeyed her husband and moved to
Stechow. Caspar Erich was buried in the Church in Aurich, his funeral oration
is in the Staatsarchiv in Minden Westfalen nr. 6926/27 ,
In Carl von Lochow`s “History of the von Lochow Family”,Starke Verlag
1940, is recorded that Katharina Dorothea bought a von Lochow estate (Gut) in
Kotzen. It is interesting to note that her brother Carl Gottfried married Dorothea
Katharina von Kirschky widow of a von Lochow.
Katharina left a detailed account of her life, her family and the origens of
her family. The document still is in the possession of the Von Stechow family.
Katharina Dorothea VON ENGELBRUNN and Caspar Erich VON STECHOW were married
on 29 Sep 1664 in Aurich. Caspar Erich VON STECHOW1 (son of Baltzer VON STECHOW and
Hippolyta VON SCHÖNERMARK-METZELTHIN) was born on 28 Apr 1603 in Kotzen/Stechow.
He died on 19 May 1672 in Aurich. He was widower of Christina Sophie
von Weyhe.
He was Lord of Kotzen, Stechow,Fahrland etc. When he died he was High Bailiff
(Drost ) of Aurich.
